University Writing Center

For Faculty

Introducing your students to the writing center:

We can introduce the services of the Writing Center to your students in your classroom or in the Writing Center. Introductions only take about ten minutes and help students become comfortable and familiar with the types of services and resources that we have to offer. With some advance notice and planning, we can add a writing workshop element that targets specific writing concerns to an introduction. Contact us early in the semester to schedule a convenient time for us to welcome your students to the Writing Center.

Suggested syllabus statement:

The University Writing Center (UWC) offers support to writers in one-on-one sessions, which last anywhere from 10 to 50 minutes depending on your needs. The UWC helps writers brainstorm, find a topic, incorporate and document sources, organize drafts, develop revision strategies, and more. If you visit the UWC, take a copy of your assignment, any drafting or notes you may have, as well as any sources you’re working with. UWC consultations are recommended but not required. Make an appointment by calling 828.251.6596, by emailing writingcenter@unca.edu, or by clicking on the "Schedule an Appointment" link to the right. You may also drop in during  open hours, which can be found at writingcenter.unca.edu.
